Southeast Asia

Southeast Asia Culture, History and People is a hybrid program that blends hands-on and service learning experiences with cultural immersion as students wind their way through the countries of Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, and Cambodia over the course of 15 days. In Vietnam and Laos, students will learn about diverse perspectives on  the United States' involvement during the Vietnam War, including visits to the significant landmarks of the war. Participants will gain an understanding of the people of the region and some of the political issues from a global context. In Thailand, students will learn and participate in Thai efforts to conserve biodiversity and endangered species, including elephants which are symbolic to Thai culture. The last leg of the trip will conclude with a service-learning project through collaboration with the UA microcampus at the American University of Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
